Aston: A Leading Technological University

Aston is one of Britain's leading technological universities. Our unique mix of academic programmes, in Engineering and Applied Science, Life and Health Sciences, and Management and Modern Languages with its emphasis on professional experience, has been developed to meet the needs of industry, commerce and the public sector in the 1990s and beyond.

Aston has always been near to the top of the graudate employment league. Since 1987 a higher proportion of our graduates have gone into employment within six months of graduation than those of any other university.

More than half of Aston's academic staff are in departments which have research programmes of national or international research standing. Among our research activities are developing drugs to fight cancer and treat AIDS, the improvement of contact lenses, reducing driver stress, theory and applications of neural networks, treatment of dementia and epilepsy, developing environment-friendly degradable plastics, sick buildings syndrome, machine vision, photonics, exhaust emission controls and the impact of the single European market.

We lead the way in the application of IT to teaching and learning. Every one of our students has access to the most advanced computer, library and information networks.

Our lush, green campus is at the heart of Britain's second city. First class social, sporting and cultural facilities are only minutes away. The Aston Triangle has a lively, close-knit and friendly atmosphere. Sports, catering and social facilities are available to suit every taste.

Our campus accommodation is of the highest standard. We accommodate two thirds of our undergraduates and provide first class conference facilities at competitive rates for groups of 10 to 1,000.

Aston is the hub of the national road and rail networks. Most parts of Britain are less than two hours away.
