Toy Data Demo

The demo shows the GTM learning a simple toy problem in 2D; 59 points evenly spaced on the x-axis over the intervall [0.15, 3.05] are fed through the function

y = x + 1.25 * sin(2x)

to give a data set.

In the movie, the training data is plotted as red circles (o); the GTM generated Gaussian mixture is plotted with a green plus-sign (+) for each component centre and a surrounding, light green disc indicating the variance of the component. A green line connects the centres, which is drawn according to the ordering of the corresponding points in the latent space. The GTM is initialised to map to the first principal component of the training data and subsequently trained for 15 iterations.

The movie only consists of 18 frames, which may be over in a few seconds on a fast machine playing at normal speed; if you can't set the speed, you might be able to play it frame-by-frame. (I prefer to keep it short, for people sitting in front of not-so-fast machines.)
