I have by and large finished my PhD-studies at Aston (at the moment I am
incorporating the minor corrections requested by my examiners into my thesis)
and moved on to the Max-Plank-Institute
of Cognitive Neuroscience in Leipzig, Germany.
Research Interest
My first work in neural computing, my MSc project,
was looking into how neural networks could be used to solve problems emerging
in plasma physics; I still have some interest in this area, although I'm
not working with anything related at the moment. The main theme of my PhD
research was density modelling and visualisation of high-dimensional data,
using latent variable models. Together with my supervisors, Prof.
Chris Bishop and Dr
Chris Williams, I developed a model called the generative topographic
mapping (GTM). There is a GTM Homepage
where you can find out more about it and also download some MATLAB software
to try it. I still have a strong interest in the GTM and related research.
In my new job, I am working on segmentation of function brain image
data (primarily fMRI data).
Brief Biography
Coming from Sweden, I spent my first three academic years doing computer
science at Linköping University.
In my fourth year, I came to Aston to take the MSc SEA programme, and I
then had Prof. Chris Bishop as supervisor for my Master's project. He then
managed to talk me into continuing with a PhD.
My favourite pastimes are outdoor activites, such as rock climbing and
hill walking, and culinary activities, such as cooking and eating good
food. You find out more about me at my
homepage.
